Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use this EA on prop firms?

Yes. Golden Tiger EA Pro has three drawdown protection modes, including FTMO-style trailing drawdown, with documented preset configurations for FTMO, The5ers, and MyForexFunds. Set the drawdown limits slightly below your firm's thresholds as a safety buffer. I recommend disabling gap trading on prop firms due to unpredictable spreads at market open.

How do I enable the news filter?

Go to MT5 Tools → Options → Expert Advisors and add https://nfs.faireconomy.media to the list of allowed URLs for WebRequest. The EA will fetch and refresh the economic calendar automatically. In the Strategy Tester, the news filter is automatically disabled since WebRequest is unavailable in that environment.

What is the difference between the three drawdown modes?

Equity mode triggers when your floating equity drops a set % below the session open equity. Balance mode triggers when your realised balance drops a set % from the session open. Trailing mode (FTMO-style) triggers when equity drops a set % below the highest equity reached since the EA started, this is the strictest mode and matches most prop firm challenge rules.

What does the Staircase trailing stop do?

Instead of following price continuously, the staircase mode locks in profit in discrete steps. When price moves a defined distance in your favour, the stop jumps up to the next staircase level and holds there until the next step is reached. This is ideal for gold's volatile trending moves, you lock in gains at each stair while giving the trade room to run.

Can I trade other instruments apart from XAUUSD?

Yes, but only instruments with strong momentum and clear daily range movements. Based on testing it also performs well on BTCUSD. Pairs with low volatility or choppy price action are not recommended. Always test thoroughly on a demo account before running live.

Does it work in the Strategy Tester?

Yes. The news filter is automatically disabled in the tester since WebRequest is unavailable. Backtest results will not reflect news avoidance. For realistic XAUUSD backtesting, use a fixed spread of 15–20 points with every-tick data.
